Cosigners lend their names and good credit histories to help the maker (the primary borrower) secure a loan. Should the maker die, lose a job or otherwise fail to make payments, all responsibility for meeting the terms of the loan transfers to the cosigner. An often overlooked aspect of cosigning a loan is the fact that the loan appears on both the maker’s and cosigner’s credit reports. As a cosigner, it is your responsibility to be aware of the loan’s status and make any necessary arrangements should the other borrower not be able to reliably make payments.
To start the loan pre-approval process, submit an online application, visit your local branch, or contact our Lending Department at 601−649−7181 (option 4) during normal business hours.
Non-members can apply for a loan, but to apply in a branch or over the phone, you must — at minimum — open a savings account with Sunbelt. Before the loan is processed, membership eligibility will be determined. One of our lending professionals will contact you to review our membership requirements.
Any member who is 16 or older and has an active checking account may apply for a debit card. Members must be 18 or older to apply for a loan, a MasterCard credit card or Overdraft Privilege.
The credit bureau does not allow Sunbelt to release copies of credit reports. You can request a free copy of your credit report by visiting annualcreditreport.com.
The federal government requires that each of the three national credit-reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion) provide a free credit report every year. To request a free copy of your credit report, do not contact the individual credit-reporting agencies.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, the only authorized online source is at annualcreditreport.com. Consumers should be aware that there are many websites that claim to offer free credit reports but often charge you for another product if you accept the report.
To request your credit report by phone, call (877) 322‑8228.
To request your credit report by mail, write to Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348 – 5281.
Because the federal government requires that each of the three national credit-reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion) provide you with a free credit report every year, we recommend staggering your requests throughout the year. That way, you’ll get a continuous picture of your credit status, because the three bureaus feed each other the latest information. You will also be able to resolve any errors as you find them (because errors can negatively impact a credit score), and this will also help you keep an eye on identity theft.
